Research Tools: AND OR NOT

Using Boolean Search Operators
Boolean Searching is supported by most online databases and search engines. It is can be used to broaden or narrow your topic searches.

AND
Combines terms, bringing up documents that contain both search terms.
OR
Will return documents that use either word.
(OR is a good option when searching several common spellings or synonyms.)
NOT
Narrows searches by excluding certain search terms. NOT will bring up documents that include the first term and exclude the second.
NEAR
Will find documents that use words in a specific order or close proximity.
Nesting
Is the combination of Boolean Operators to further refine your search.
